Orphan Sunday and Parent Child Dedication

This picture was from our Parent Child Dedication Service today at church. At our church we were one of three families that participated in a dedication service on Orphan Sunday. The other two families, adopted their children out of foster care and other similar situations.

During the service today, Alexander was dressed in a traditional Ethiopian outfit. He was very vocal and yelled, "heyyyyyy"! a lot leading up to the dedication time. As a parent, my first thought was to "shhhhh" him. However, I quickly remembered that just five months ago we met a little boy in Ethiopia who who didn't cry or make any sounds whatsoever. So, I whispered into his ear, "yell little man, you now have a voice, a family, and a home."

Security!!!

Stacy and I have noticed that Alex is well known in our area and he has quite a following. A few weeks ago, while at McDonalds Alex had a diaper blow out. While going to change him, a lady yelled, "there he is, there's Alex!" She then followed Stacy and Alex into the restroom just a talking to him.

The next night, we were at Walmart and a couple of employees where helping us find some rain ponchos. While helping us look, one of the ladies suddenly said, "Alex you are getting so big, you're getting some meat on those bones." Again, we've never met them before. Our community has been amazing welcoming Alex and encouraging us.

Alex is now up to 27 lbs (gained 10 lbs in 3 months). He is still doing physical therapy 2x's a week. He is also blowing kisses and making "sweet eyes."

Report cards came out last week. Andrew had straight A's. Allyson had 6 A's and 2 B's. Ashleigh had 7 A's and 1 B. We're proud of them!

Where Has The Time Gone?

It's hard to believe that September is almost gone. This time next week we will be in the month of October. Where has the time gone?

Alexander is up to 26.4 lbs. He is getting Physical Therapy 2x's a week from Ms. Cheryl and she is wearing the boy out! He is crawling all over the house, pulling himself up, and walks with assistance. His abscess is almost gone, but his lymph node has not gone down. His favorite thing to do is chase the dog, and he loves to complete the phrase: "Ready, Set, Gooooooo" He has filled out and is wearing a double extra wide shoe.

Andrew is playing pee-wee football. In last weeks game he made several tackles and recovered a fumble and ran it for a 1st down. He and Stacy are still working out their mother/son roles in their classroom. Andrew loves to go to her desk and kiss on her during class.

Allyson is doing well in 6th grade. She is on the pep squad and enjoys cheering. Allyson and Jason had a daddy daughter date last weekend to the LSU Vs.ULL football game.

Ashleigh is now in 7th grade, a youth. She will be trying out for the school basketball team next week. She's doing well in school, but she is a 13 year old female. Any Questions????? I have plenty!

Stacy and Jason have become a glorified taxi service (see above). Our first home visit by our social worker for our 3 month report to our adoption agency was last week. We are also working on our readoption of Alex.
